SITU designed and fabricated an exhibition environment entitled Castscape for the Museum of Arts and Design’s NYC Makers: The MAD Biennial. NYC Makers spotlights the workmanship of 100 artists, artisans, and designers in New York City who were nominated to take part in the exhibition.
Castscape utilizes an industrial concrete canvas material that creates a fluid and resilient landscape to showcase a selection of participants' works.
Impregnanted with dry concrete, the fabric was wetted and then draped obver wooden armatures to create the desired form. The resulting installation is a series of plinths that organically wrap around the exhibition space, both physically and conceptually supporting the exhibition's focus on local making practices in design and manufacturing.
